Recently, our design team added loads of new features to the GrogTag editor to give you more control over your custom creations. If you would prefer a different experience, there are plenty of free photo editing apps out there that will do wonders to your images. While some are easier than others, using a program you are familiar with can sometimes yield a better result (and a smoother experience) than trying to learn a new piece of software.
One of our favorites right now is Canva. In addition to their paid versions (which are more geared to marketing teams), they have a free “web app” that is fairly robust, and would fit most needs just fine. Simply sign up for their free account, and upload any photos you want to work on. Canva is loaded with some pretty useful functions like adding different fonts, various shapes, “Instagram-like” color filters, and more. Most of this you can do in our GrogTag MegaEditor already, but this does give you a bit more flexibility to edit your photos “off-line”.
As with any photo editing, the bigger the files the better the quality, so make sure to check your artwork to ensure that it’s at the highest resolution possible. Once you are happy with your soon-to-be-label image, export it as a PDF. Canva automatically saves your image with settings that are perfect for printing, and the GrogTag system can handle PDFs very well - it’s the best of both worlds!
Another great feature of the Canav product is the vast knowledge base they have - for free! You can get a pretty good understanding of design just by spending a few moments poking around here. Their Color Wheel, for example, is a nice breakdown of how colors work together in design, so if you want to take your labels to the next level, this is a good place to start.
