Using your own artwork? You'll want to double check these items first!
Tips to ensure you are happy with the final product!
Make sure you've chosen the right label size. A common mistake we've seen is ordering the wrong label size. Check out our Shop By Bottle page to get an idea of what some of our labels look like on popular bottle types. Don't see the label you are looking at or the bottle you are using? Measure the usable label area on your bottle before selecting a label size - this is the area that is completely flat. We also recommend using our pdf guides to cut out the label and hold it up to your bottle, just to be sure. View a list of our label sizes here.
Make sure your design includes bleeds. Our upload sizes differ from the final trim size because the upload sizes accommodates for bleeds. Small, natural shifts occur during printing, and bleeds will make sure that the color does indeed run to the edge once it's trimmed. Check our design guides to make sure you have the correct upload size/proper bleed. Your background color should extend all the way to the outside of the yellow border (the blue dotted line is the trim line).
Make sure your artwork is not too close to the edge. If you take a look at the same design guides mentioned above, you'll notice that yellow border also falls inside the blue dotted line/trim line. This inside portion represents the safety zone. You will want to make sure all important text and graphic elements remain inside the yellow border so that nothing is cut off.
Make sure your font size is not too small. In order to verify that your font size is large enough for your label, we recommend printing the label out at it’s proper size (if you are using one of our guides, that should be at 100% or no scale). If you can read it clearly from your home printer, it will show up perfectly on our industrial ones. If the font is sort of pushed together and hard to decipher, you may want to bump the sizing up a bit. We recommend going no smaller than 7pt type.
Do a color check. Screen values and print values use two different color scales, RGB (screen) and CMYK (print). Because of this, colors don't always translate as an exact match from screen to print. We recommend printing your file at home. If you're not happy with the way the color looks at home, chances are you will not be happy with the final product. You'll want to make sure you make any adjustments to the color values before uploading your file onto our site.
Make sure your artwork is outputted correctly. We recommend saving your artwork at the proper upload size as CMYK at 300dpi. If you would like to incorporate transparencies for your tap handle or colored cap, the system currently recognizes them with an Illustrator 8 eps file.
